76b78721ca Add slotsync skip statistics.
This patch adds two new columns to the pg_stat_replication_slots view:
slotsync_skip_count - the total number of times a slotsync operation was
skipped.
slotsync_skip_at - the timestamp of the most recent skip.

These additions provide better visibility into replication slot
synchronization behavior.

A future patch will introduce the slotsync_skip_reason column in
pg_replication_slots to capture the reason for skip.

3edaf29fa5 Rename two columns in pg_stat_subscription_stats.
This patch renames the sync_error_count column to sync_table_error_count
in the pg_stat_subscription_stats view. The new name makes the purpose
explicit now that a separate column exists to track sequence
synchronization errors.

Additionally, the column seq_sync_error_count is renamed to
sync_seq_error_count to maintain a consistent naming pattern, making it
easier for users to group, and query synchronization related counters.

f6a4c498dc Add seq_sync_error_count to subscription statistics.
This commit adds a new column, seq_sync_error_count, to the
pg_stat_subscription_stats view. This counter tracks the number of errors
encountered by the sequence synchronization worker during operation.

Since a single worker handles the synchronization of all sequences, this
value may reflect errors from multiple sequences. This addition improves
observability of sequence synchronization behavior and helps monitor
potential issues during replication.

f9a09aa295 Add wal_fpi_bytes to pg_stat_wal and pg_stat_get_backend_wal()
This new counter, called "wal_fpi_bytes", tracks the total amount in
bytes of full page images (FPIs) generated in WAL.  This data becomes
available globally via pg_stat_wal, and for backend statistics via
pg_stat_get_backend_wal().

Previously, this information could only be retrieved with pg_waldump or
pg_walinspect, which may not be available depending on the environment,
and are expensive to execute.  It offers hints about how much FPIs
impact the WAL generated, which could be a large percentage for some
workloads, as well as the effects of wal_compression or page holes.

Bump catalog version.
Bump PGSTAT_FILE_FORMAT_ID, due to the addition of wal_fpi_bytes in
PgStat_WalCounters.

96b3784973 Add "ALL SEQUENCES" support to publications.
This patch adds support for the ALL SEQUENCES clause in publications,
enabling synchronization/replication of all sequences that is useful for
upgrades.

Publications can now include all sequences via FOR ALL SEQUENCES.
psql enhancements:
\d shows publications for a given sequence.
\dRp indicates if a publication includes all sequences.

ALL SEQUENCES can be combined with ALL TABLES, but not with other options
like TABLE or TABLES IN SCHEMA. We can extend support for more granular
clauses in future.

The view pg_publication_sequences provides information about the mapping
between publications and sequences.

This patch enables publishing of sequences; subscriber-side support will
be added in upcoming patches.

d3b6183dd9 Add mem_exceeded_count column to pg_stat_replication_slots.
This commit introduces a new column mem_exceeded_count to the
pg_stat_replication_slots view. This counter tracks how often the
memory used by logical decoding exceeds the logical_decoding_work_mem
limit. The new statistic helps users determine whether exceeding the
logical_decoding_work_mem limit is a rare occurrences or a frequent
issue, information that wasn't available through existing statistics.

b71bae41a0 Add stats_reset to pg_stat_user_functions
It is possible to call pg_stat_reset_single_function_counters() for a
single function, but the reset time was missing the system view showing
its statistics.  Like all the fields of pg_stat_user_functions, the GUC
track_functions needs to be enabled to show the statistics about
function executions.

Bump catalog version.
Bump PGSTAT_FILE_FORMAT_ID, as a result of the new field added to
PgStat_StatFuncEntry.

a5b543258a Add stats_reset to pg_stat_all_{tables,indexes} and related views
It is possible to call pg_stat_reset_single_table_counters() on a
relation (index or table) but the reset time was missing from the system
views showing their statistics.

This commit adds the reset time as an attribute of pg_stat_all_tables,
pg_stat_all_indexes, and other relations related to them.

Bump catalog version.
Bump PGSTAT_FILE_FORMAT_ID, as a result of the new field added to
PgStat_StatTabEntry.

a850be2fe6 Add max_retention_duration option to subscriptions.
This commit introduces a new subscription parameter,
max_retention_duration, aimed at mitigating excessive accumulation of dead
tuples when retain_dead_tuples is enabled and the apply worker lags behind
the publisher.

When the time spent advancing a non-removable transaction ID exceeds the
max_retention_duration threshold, the apply worker will stop retaining
conflict detection information. In such cases, the conflict slot's xmin
will be set to InvalidTransactionId, provided that all apply workers
associated with the subscription (with retain_dead_tuples enabled) confirm
the retention duration has been exceeded.

To ensure retention status persists across server restarts, a new column
subretentionactive has been added to the pg_subscription catalog. This
prevents unnecessary reactivation of retention logic after a restart.

The conflict detection slot will not be automatically re-initialized
unless a new subscription is created with retain_dead_tuples = true, or
the user manually re-enables retain_dead_tuples.

A future patch will introduce support for automatic slot re-initialization
once at least one apply worker confirms that the retention duration is
within the configured max_retention_duration.

fd5a1a0c3e Detect and report update_deleted conflicts.
This enhancement builds upon the infrastructure introduced in commit
228c370868, which enables the preservation of deleted tuples and their
origin information on the subscriber. This capability is crucial for
handling concurrent transactions replicated from remote nodes.

The update introduces support for detecting update_deleted conflicts
during the application of update operations on the subscriber. When an
update operation fails to locate the target row-typically because it has
been concurrently deleted-we perform an additional table scan. This scan
uses the SnapshotAny mechanism and we do this additional scan only when
the retain_dead_tuples option is enabled for the relevant subscription.

The goal of this scan is to locate the most recently deleted tuple-matching
the old column values from the remote update-that has not yet been removed
by VACUUM and is still visible according to our slot (i.e., its deletion
is not older than conflict-detection-slot's xmin). If such a tuple is
found, the system reports an update_deleted conflict, including the origin
and transaction details responsible for the deletion.

This provides a groundwork for more robust and accurate conflict
resolution process, preventing unexpected behavior by correctly
identifying cases where a remote update clashes with a deletion from
another origin.

228c370868 Preserve conflict-relevant data during logical replication.
Logical replication requires reliable conflict detection to maintain data
consistency across nodes. To achieve this, we must prevent premature
removal of tuples deleted by other origins and their associated commit_ts
data by VACUUM, which could otherwise lead to incorrect conflict reporting
and resolution.

This patch introduces a mechanism to retain deleted tuples on the
subscriber during the application of concurrent transactions from remote
nodes. Retaining these tuples allows us to correctly ignore concurrent
updates to the same tuple. Without this, an UPDATE might be misinterpreted
as an INSERT during resolutions due to the absence of the original tuple.

Additionally, we ensure that origin metadata is not prematurely removed by
vacuum freeze, which is essential for detecting update_origin_differs and
delete_origin_differs conflicts.

To support this, a new replication slot named pg_conflict_detection is
created and maintained by the launcher on the subscriber. Each apply
worker tracks its own non-removable transaction ID, which the launcher
aggregates to determine the appropriate xmin for the slot, thereby
retaining necessary tuples.

Conflict information retention (deleted tuples and commit_ts) can be
enabled per subscription via the retain_conflict_info option. This is
disabled by default to avoid unnecessary overhead for configurations that
do not require conflict resolution or logging.

During upgrades, if any subscription on the old cluster has
retain_conflict_info enabled, a conflict detection slot will be created to
protect relevant tuples from deletion when the new cluster starts.

This is a foundational work to correctly detect update_deleted conflict
which will be done in a follow-up patch.

167ed8082f Introduce pg_dsm_registry_allocations view.
This commit adds a new system view that provides information about
entries in the dynamic shared memory (DSM) registry.  Specifically,
it returns the name, type, and size of each entry.  Note that since
we cannot discover the size of dynamic shared memory areas (DSAs)
and hash tables backed by DSAs (dshashes) without first attaching
to them, the size column is left as NULL for those.

042a66291b Add function to get memory context stats for processes
This adds a function for retrieving memory context statistics
and information from backends as well as auxiliary processes.
The intended usecase is cluster debugging when under memory
pressure or unanticipated memory usage characteristics.

When calling the function it sends a signal to the specified
process to submit statistics regarding its memory contexts
into dynamic shared memory.  Each memory context is returned
in detail, followed by a cumulative total in case the number
of contexts exceed the max allocated amount of shared memory.
Each process is limited to use at most 1Mb memory for this.

A summary can also be explicitly requested by the user, this
will return the TopMemoryContext and a cumulative total of
all lower contexts.

In order to not block on busy processes the caller specifies
the number of seconds during which to retry before timing out.
In the case where no statistics are published within the set
timeout,  the last known statistics are returned, or NULL if
no previously published statistics exist.  This allows dash-
board type queries to continually publish even if the target
process is temporarily congested.  Context records contain a
timestamp to indicate when they were submitted.

8cc139bec3 Introduce pg_shmem_allocations_numa view
Introduce new pg_shmem_alloctions_numa view with information about how
shared memory is distributed across NUMA nodes. For each shared memory
segment, the view returns one row for each NUMA node backing it, with
the total amount of memory allocated from that node.

The view may be relatively expensive, especially when executed for the
first time in a backend, as it has to touch all memory pages to get
reliable information about the NUMA node. This may also force allocation
of the shared memory.

Unlike pg_shmem_allocations, the view does not show anonymous shared
memory allocations. It also does not show memory allocated using the
dynamic shared memory infrastructure.

4868c96bc8 Fix slot synchronization for two_phase enabled slots.
The issue is that the transactions prepared before two-phase decoding is
enabled can fail to replicate to the subscriber after being committed on a
promoted standby following a failover. This is because the two_phase_at
field of a slot, which tracks the LSN from which two-phase decoding
starts, is not synchronized to standby servers. Without two_phase_at, the
logical decoding might incorrectly identify prepared transaction as
already replicated to the subscriber after promotion of standby server,
causing them to be skipped.

To address the issue on HEAD, the two_phase_at field of the slot is
exposed by the pg_replication_slots view and allows the slot
synchronization to copy this value to the corresponding synced slot on the
standby server.

This bug is likely to occur if the user toggles the two_phase option to
true after initial slot creation. Given that altering the two_phase option
of a replication slot is not allowed in PostgreSQL 17, this bug is less
likely to occur. We can't change the view/function definition in
backbranch so we can't push the same fix but we are brainstorming an
appropriate solution for PG17.

73eba5004a Detect and Log multiple_unique_conflicts type conflict.
Introduce a new conflict type, multiple_unique_conflicts, to handle cases
where an incoming row during logical replication violates multiple UNIQUE
constraints.

Previously, the apply worker detected and reported only the first
encountered key conflict (insert_exists/update_exists), causing repeated
failures as each constraint violation needs to be handled one by one
making the process slow and error-prone.

With this patch, the apply worker checks all unique constraints upfront
once the first key conflict is detected and reports
multiple_unique_conflicts if multiple violations exist. This allows users
to resolve all conflicts at once by deleting all conflicting tuples rather
than dealing with them individually or skipping the transaction.

In the future, this will also allow us to specify different resolution
handlers for such a conflict type.

Add the stats for this conflict type in pg_stat_subscription_stats.

2421e9a51d Remove read/sync fields from pg_stat_wal and GUC track_wal_io_timing
The four following attributes are removed from pg_stat_wal:
* wal_write
* wal_sync
* wal_write_time
* wal_sync_time

a051e71e28 has added an equivalent of this information in pg_stat_io
with more granularity as this now spreads across the backend types, IO
context and IO objects.  So, keeping the same information in pg_stat_wal
has little benefits.

Another benefit of this commit is the removal of PendingWalStats,
simplifying an upcoming patch to add per-backend WAL statistics, which
already support IO statistics and which have access to the write/sync
stats data of WAL.

The GUC track_wal_io_timing, that was used to enable or disable the
aggregation of the write and sync timings for WAL, is also removed.
pgstat_prepare_io_time() is simplified.

Bump PGSTAT_FILE_FORMAT_ID, due to the update of PgStat_WalStats.

bb8dff9995 Add cost-based vacuum delay time to progress views.
This commit adds the amount of time spent sleeping due to
cost-based delay to the pg_stat_progress_vacuum and
pg_stat_progress_analyze system views.  A new configuration
parameter named track_cost_delay_timing, which is off by default,
controls whether this information is gathered.  For vacuum, the
reported value includes the sleep time of any associated parallel
workers.  However, parallel workers only report their sleep time
once per second to avoid overloading the leader process.

30a6ed0ce4 Track per-relation cumulative time spent in [auto]vacuum and [auto]analyze
This commit adds four fields to the statistics of relations, aggregating
the amount of time spent for each operation on a relation:
- total_vacuum_time, for manual vacuum.
- total_autovacuum_time, for vacuum done by the autovacuum daemon.
- total_analyze_time, for manual analyze.
- total_autoanalyze_time, for analyze done by the autovacuum daemon.

This gives users the option to derive the average time spent for these
operations with the help of the related "count" fields.

d7674c9fab Seek zone abbreviations in the IANA data before timezone_abbreviations.
If a time zone abbreviation used in datetime input is defined in
the currently active timezone, use that definition in preference
to looking in the timezone_abbreviations list.  That allows us to
correctly handle abbreviations that have different meanings in
different timezones.  Also, it eliminates an inconsistency between
datetime input and datetime output: the non-ISO datestyles for
timestamptz have always printed abbreviations taken from the IANA
data, not from timezone_abbreviations.  Before this fix, it was
possible to demonstrate cases where casting a timestamp to text
and back fails or changes the value significantly because of that
inconsistency.

While this change removes the ability to override the IANA data about
an abbreviation known in the current zone, it's not clear that there's
any real use-case for doing so.  But it is clear that this makes life
a lot easier for dealing with abbreviations that have conflicts across
different time zones.

Also update the pg_timezone_abbrevs view to report abbreviations
that are recognized via the IANA data, and *not* report any
timezone_abbreviations entries that are thereby overridden.
Under the hood, there are now two SRFs, one that pulls the IANA
data and one that pulls timezone_abbreviations entries.  They're
combined by logic in the view.  This approach was useful for
debugging (since the functions can be called on their own).
While I don't intend to document the functions explicitly,
they might be useful to call directly.

Also improve DecodeTimezoneAbbrev's caching logic so that it can
cache zone abbreviations found in the IANA data.  Without that,
this patch would have caused a noticeable degradation of the
runtime of timestamptz_in.

f92c854cf4 Make pg_stat_io count IOs as bytes instead of blocks for some operations
Currently in pg_stat_io view, IOs are counted as blocks of size
BLCKSZ.  There are two limitations with this design:
* The actual number of I/O requests sent to the kernel is lower because
I/O requests may be merged before being sent.  Additionally, it gives
the impression that all I/Os are done in block size, which shadows the
benefits of merging I/O requests.
* Some patches are under work to extend pg_stat_io for the tracking of
operations that may not be linked to the block size.  For example, WAL
read IOs are done in variable bytes and it is not possible to correctly
show these IOs in pg_stat_io view, and we want to keep all this data in
a single system view rather than spread it across multiple relations to
ease monitoring.

WaitReadBuffers() can now be tracked as a single read operation
worth N blocks.  Same for ExtendBufferedRelShared() and
ExtendBufferedRelLocal() for extensions.

Three columns are added to pg_stat_io for reads, writes and extensions
for the byte calculations.  op_bytes, which was always hardcoded to
BLCKSZ, is removed.  IO backend statistics are updated to reflect these
changes.

e7a9496de9 Add two attributes to pg_stat_database for parallel workers activity
Two attributes are added to pg_stat_database:
* parallel_workers_to_launch, counting the total number of parallel
workers that were planned to be launched.
* parallel_workers_launched, counting the total number of parallel
workers actually launched.

The ratio of both fields can provide hints that there are not enough
slots available when launching parallel workers, also useful when
pg_stat_statements is not deployed on an instance (i.e. cf54a2c002).

This commit relies on de3a2ea3b2, that has added two fields to EState,
that get incremented when executing Gather or GatherMerge nodes.

A test is added in select_parallel, where parallel workers are spawned.

17cc5f666f Fix inconsistent reporting of checkpointer stats.
Previously, the pg_stat_checkpointer view and the checkpoint completion
log message could show different numbers for buffers written
during checkpoints. The view only counted shared buffers,
while the log message included both shared and SLRU buffers,
causing inconsistencies.

This commit resolves the issue by updating both the view and the log message
to separately report shared and SLRU buffers written during checkpoints.
A new slru_written column is added to the pg_stat_checkpointer view
to track SLRU buffers, while the existing buffers_written column now
tracks only shared buffers. This change would help users distinguish
between the two types of buffers, in the pg_stat_checkpointer view and
the checkpoint complete log message, respectively.

559efce1d6 Add num_done counter to the pg_stat_checkpointer view.
Checkpoints can be skipped when the server is idle. The existing num_timed and
num_requested counters in pg_stat_checkpointer track both completed and
skipped checkpoints, but there was no way to count only the completed ones.

This commit introduces the num_done counter, which tracks only completed
checkpoints, making it easier to see how many were actually performed.

6c2b5edecc Collect statistics about conflicts in logical replication.
This commit adds columns in view pg_stat_subscription_stats to show the
number of times a particular conflict type has occurred during the
application of logical replication changes. The following columns are
added:

confl_insert_exists:
        Number of times a row insertion violated a NOT DEFERRABLE unique
        constraint.
confl_update_origin_differs:
        Number of times an update was performed on a row that was
        previously modified by another origin.
confl_update_exists:
        Number of times that the updated value of a row violates a
        NOT DEFERRABLE unique constraint.
confl_update_missing:
        Number of times that the tuple to be updated is missing.
confl_delete_origin_differs:
        Number of times a delete was performed on a row that was
        previously modified by another origin.
confl_delete_missing:
        Number of times that the tuple to be deleted is missing.

The update_origin_differs and delete_origin_differs conflicts can be
detected only when track_commit_timestamp is enabled.

f1affb6705 Reintroduce dead tuple counter in pg_stat_progress_vacuum.
Commit 667e65aac3 changed both num_dead_tuples and max_dead_tuples
columns to dead_tuple_bytes and max_dead_tuple_bytes columns,
respectively. But as per discussion, the number of dead tuples
collected still provides meaningful insights for users.

This commit reintroduces the column for the count of dead tuples,
renamed as num_dead_item_ids. It avoids confusion with the number of
dead tuples removed by VACUUM, which includes dead heap-only tuples
but excludes any pre-existing LP_DEAD items left behind by
opportunistic pruning.

521a7156ab Fix privilege checks in pg_stats_ext and pg_stats_ext_exprs.
The catalog view pg_stats_ext fails to consider privileges for
expression statistics.  The catalog view pg_stats_ext_exprs fails
to consider privileges and row-level security policies.  To fix,
restrict the data in these views to table owners or roles that
inherit privileges of the table owner.  It may be possible to apply
less restrictive privilege checks in some cases, but that is left
as a future exercise.  Furthermore, for pg_stats_ext_exprs, do not
return data for tables with row-level security enabled, as is
already done for pg_stats_ext.

On the back-branches, a fix-CVE-2024-4317.sql script is provided
that will install into the "share" directory.  This file can be
used to apply the fix to existing clusters.

667e65aac3 Use TidStore for dead tuple TIDs storage during lazy vacuum.
Previously, we used a simple array for storing dead tuple IDs during
lazy vacuum, which had a number of problems:

* The array used a single allocation and so was limited to 1GB.
* The allocation was pessimistically sized according to table size.
* Lookup with binary search was slow because of poor CPU cache and
  branch prediction behavior.

This commit replaces that array with the TID store from commit
30e144287a.

Since the backing radix tree makes small allocations as needed, the
1GB limit is now gone. Further, the total memory used is now often
smaller by an order of magnitude or more, depending on the
distribution of blocks and offsets. These two features should make
multiple rounds of heap scanning and index cleanup an extremely rare
event. TID lookup during index cleanup is also several times faster,
even more so when index order is correlated with heap tuple order.

Since there is no longer a predictable relationship between the number
of dead tuples vacuumed and the space taken up by their TIDs, the
number of tuples no longer provides any meaningful insights for users,
nor is the maximum number predictable. For that reason this commit
also changes to byte-based progress reporting, with the relevant
columns of pg_stat_progress_vacuum renamed accordingly to
max_dead_tuple_bytes and dead_tuple_bytes.

For parallel vacuum, both the TID store and supplemental information
specific to vacuum are shared among the parallel vacuum workers. As
with the previous array, we don't take any locks on TidStore during
parallel vacuum since writes are still only done by the leader
process.

a11f330b55 Track last_inactive_time in pg_replication_slots.
This commit adds a new property called last_inactive_time for slots. It is
set to 0 whenever a slot is made active/acquired and set to the current
timestamp whenever the slot is inactive/released or restored from the disk.
Note that we don't set the last_inactive_time for the slots currently being
synced from the primary to the standby because such slots are typically
inactive as decoding is not allowed on those.

The 'last_inactive_time' will be useful on production servers to debug and
analyze inactive replication slots. It will also help to know the lifetime
of a replication slot - one can know how long a streaming standby, logical
subscriber, or replication slot consumer is down.

The 'last_inactive_time' will also be useful to implement inactive
timeout-based replication slot invalidation in a future commit.

6acb0a628e Add notBefore and notAfter to SSL cert info display
This adds the X509 attributes notBefore and notAfter to sslinfo
as well as pg_stat_ssl to allow verifying and identifying the
validity period of the current client certificate. OpenSSL has
APIs for extracting notAfter and notBefore, but they are only
supported in recent versions so we have to calculate the dates
by hand in order to make this work for the older versions of
OpenSSL that we still support.

6ae701b437 Track invalidation_reason in pg_replication_slots.
Till now, the reason for replication slot invalidation is not tracked
directly in pg_replication_slots. A recent commit 007693f2a3 added
'conflict_reason' to show the reasons for slot conflict/invalidation, but
only for logical slots.

This commit adds a new column 'invalidation_reason' to show invalidation
reasons for both physical and logical slots. And, this commit also turns
'conflict_reason' text column to 'conflicting' boolean column (effectively
reverting commit 007693f2a3). The 'conflicting' column is true for
invalidation reasons 'rows_removed' and 'wal_level_insufficient' because
those make the slot conflict with recovery. When 'conflicting' is true,
one can now look at the new 'invalidation_reason' column for the reason
for the logical slot's conflict with recovery.

The new 'invalidation_reason' column will also be useful to track other
invalidation reasons in the future commit.

ddd5f4f54a Add a slot synchronization function.
This commit introduces a new SQL function pg_sync_replication_slots()
which is used to synchronize the logical replication slots from the
primary server to the physical standby so that logical replication can be
resumed after a failover or planned switchover.

A new 'synced' flag is introduced in pg_replication_slots view, indicating
whether the slot has been synchronized from the primary server. On a
standby, synced slots cannot be dropped or consumed, and any attempt to
perform logical decoding on them will result in an error.

The logical replication slots on the primary can be synchronized to the
hot standby by using the 'failover' parameter of
pg-create-logical-replication-slot(), or by using the 'failover' option of
CREATE SUBSCRIPTION during slot creation, and then calling
pg_sync_replication_slots() on standby. For the synchronization to work,
it is mandatory to have a physical replication slot between the primary
and the standby aka 'primary_slot_name' should be configured on the
standby, and 'hot_standby_feedback' must be enabled on the standby. It is
also necessary to specify a valid 'dbname' in the 'primary_conninfo'.

If a logical slot is invalidated on the primary, then that slot on the
standby is also invalidated.

If a logical slot on the primary is valid but is invalidated on the
standby, then that slot is dropped but will be recreated on the standby in
the next pg_sync_replication_slots() call provided the slot still exists
on the primary server. It is okay to recreate such slots as long as these
are not consumable on standby (which is the case currently). This
situation may occur due to the following reasons:
- The 'max_slot_wal_keep_size' on the standby is insufficient to retain
WAL records from the restart_lsn of the slot.
- 'primary_slot_name' is temporarily reset to null and the physical slot
is removed.

The slot synchronization status on the standby can be monitored using the
'synced' column of pg_replication_slots view.

A functionality to automatically synchronize slots by a background worker
and allow logical walsenders to wait for the physical will be done in
subsequent commits.

776621a5e4 Add a failover option to subscriptions.
This commit introduces a new subscription option named 'failover', which
provides users with the ability to set the failover property of the
replication slot on the publisher when creating or altering a
subscription.

This uses the replication commands introduced by commit 7329240437 to
enable the failover option for a logical replication slot.

If the failover option is set to true, the associated replication slots
(i.e. the main slot and the table sync slots) in the upstream database are
enabled to be synchronized to the standbys. Note that the capability to
sync the replication slots will be added in subsequent commits.

c393308b69 Allow to enable failover property for replication slots via SQL API.
This commit adds the failover property to the replication slot. The
failover property indicates whether the slot will be synced to the standby
servers, enabling the resumption of corresponding logical replication
after failover. But note that this commit does not yet include the
capability to sync the replication slot; the subsequent commits will add
that capability.

A new optional parameter 'failover' is added to the
pg_create_logical_replication_slot() function. We will also enable to set
'failover' option for slots via the subscription commands in the
subsequent commits.

The value of the 'failover' flag is displayed as part of
pg_replication_slots view.

007693f2a3 Track conflict_reason in pg_replication_slots.
This patch changes the existing 'conflicting' field to 'conflict_reason'
in pg_replication_slots. This new field indicates the reason for the
logical slot's conflict with recovery. It is always NULL for physical
slots, as well as for logical slots which are not invalidated. The
non-NULL values indicate that the slot is marked as invalidated. Possible
values are:

wal_removed = required WAL has been removed.
rows_removed = required rows have been removed.
wal_level_insufficient = the primary doesn't have a wal_level sufficient
to perform logical decoding.

The existing users of 'conflicting' column can get the same answer by
using 'conflict_reason' IS NOT NULL.

12915a58ee Enhance checkpointer restartpoint statistics
Bhis commit introduces enhancements to the pg_stat_checkpointer view by adding
three new columns: restartpoints_timed, restartpoints_req, and
restartpoints_done. These additions aim to improve the visibility and
monitoring of restartpoint processes on replicas.

Previously, it was challenging to differentiate between successful and failed
restartpoint requests. This limitation arises because restartpoints on replicas
are dependent on checkpoint records from the primary, and cannot occur more
frequently than these checkpoints.

The new columns allow for clear distinction and tracking of restartpoint
requests, their triggers, and successful completions.  This enhancement aids
database administrators and developers in better understanding and diagnosing
issues related to restartpoint behavior, particularly in scenarios where
restartpoint requests may fail.

96f052613f Introduce pg_stat_checkpointer
Historically, the statistics of the checkpointer have been always part
of pg_stat_bgwriter.  This commit removes a few columns from
pg_stat_bgwriter, and introduces pg_stat_checkpointer with equivalent,
renamed columns (plus a new one for the reset timestamp):
- checkpoints_timed -> num_timed
- checkpoints_req -> num_requested
- checkpoint_write_time -> write_time
- checkpoint_sync_time -> sync_time
- buffers_checkpoint -> buffers_written

The fields of PgStat_CheckpointerStats and its SQL functions are renamed
to match with the new field names, for consistency.  Note that
background writer and checkpointer have been split into two different
processes in commits 806a2aee37 and bf405ba8e4.  The pgstat
structures were already split, making this change straight-forward.

Bump catalog version.

74604a37f2 Remove buffers_backend and buffers_backend_fsync from pg_stat_checkpointer
Two attributes related to checkpointer statistics are removed in this
commit:
- buffers_backend, that counts the number of buffers written directly by
a backend.
- buffers_backend_fsync, that counts the number of times a backend had
to do fsync() by its own.

These are actually not checkpointer properties but backend properties.
Also, pg_stat_io provides a more accurate and equivalent report of these
numbers, by tracking all the I/O stats related to backends, including
writes and fsyncs, so storing them in pg_stat_checkpointer was
redundant.

13aeaf0797 Add worker type to pg_stat_subscription.
Thanks to commit 2a8b40e368, the logical replication worker type is
easily determined.  The worker type could already be deduced via
other columns such as leader_pid and relid, but that is unnecessary
complexity for users.
