2b86ace653 ldap_parse_passwordpolicy_control takes a single LDAPControl* arg now,

38a406c8ab ITS#2717, use default SASL_MECH if none was provided. 
Note that the mech stored in the void *defaults structure is useless
because we can't look inside the structure, and the mech list is needed
as input to the SASL library, before any callbacks are called. It seems
the mech doesn't belong in the *defaults struct, and/or it should be
visible and not opaque.

990346d0c8 ITS#2566: apply patch provided by Norbert to fix lmhash problems 
- chk_lanman did not free result from hash_lanman
- copied code to generate hash from hash_lanman to chk_lanman,
  this skips prepending "{LANMAN}"
- downcase stored password hash to ensure hex characters [a-f]
  have the same case

65bfb44e8e Error when user tries to mix command line and default URI components. 
Remove TLS hard as an ldap.conf option as being not a over-writable
default.  The appropriate way to request ldaps:// is use an ldaps://
URI.  A rewrite to only sent hard for the default URIs but ignored
if the application provides it own URI would be acceptable.

bcf7ab26e4 ITS#2465 fix? ber_get_next must read at least sizeof(tag)+sizeof(len) 
which should be at most 8 bytes. However if we read more than the minimum
message length, we have a problem because we steal bytes from any following
message, and there is no buffer mechanism to push back excess data.
The shortest legitimate message is Unbind at 7 bytes, but there shouldn't
be anything following it. Abandon at 8 bytes is next, so always requesting
at least 8 bytes should be safe. Always requesting 9 was a problem.

Please double-check these assumptions...

fabbbafde9 Don't spawn threads based on ltp_pending_count, it doesn't get decremented 
right away due to ltp_mutex still being held. Just see if all open threads
are active... Use cond_broadcast to signal all waiting threads. Make sure
to remove correct ctx from active list after the thread returns.

a9fed89e3f In sb_tls_bio_read/write, check for EAGAIN in addition to EWOULDBLOCK.

c2efb8788b when shutting down a server with open connections (back-{ldap,meta}), 
the backend attempts a ldap_unbind() that results in calling
ldap_pvt_sasl_mutex_lock() with a NULL argument, causing a SIGSEGV.
I added a few assert() to catch this (I wonder if this might
be related to ITS#1982 "kill -INT corrupts database").

If I run ldapmodify & co from a script, I don't want to use '-W password'
because the password shows up in the output of 'ps' for everyone,
and I can't pipe the password to 'ldapmodify -w' because -w uses
getpassphrase() which reads from the tty instead of stdin.
So I added '-y file' which reads the password from file.  The programs
exit if the file cannot be read.

[Complete contents of file is used as password.  Use:
	echo -n "secret" > password
to create a file with "secret" as the password.  The -n avoids
adding a newline (which would invalidate the password).  Note
that echo is a builtin and hence its arguments are not visible
to 'ps'.]

I changed ldapmodify, ldapmodrdn, ldapdelete, ldapsearch, ldapcompare.
I did not bother to change ldappasswd and ldapwhoami, because they
prompt for many passwords.  [I fixed up ldapwhoami.]

Rerun autoconf after applying this patch. [Done.]

Note:  I do not know if Windows NT has fstat(), so I set HAVE_FSTAT to
undef in portable.nt.  (fstat() is used to warn if the file is publicly
readable or writeable.)  [I used fstat() to set the buffer size to
read.]

[Note: using the contents of a file extends the tools to support
passwords which could not normally be provided using getpassphrase()
or via the command line.]

0390a171b9 Changed default tls_opt_require_cert value to LDAP_OPT_X_TLS_DEMAND; force 
a fatal error when TLS server cert verification fails.

Changed ldap_pvt_tls_check_hostname to return LDAP_SUCCESS when no cert is
found: this can now only occur if tls_opt_require_cert was explicitly set
to NEVER or ALLOW.

In tls_verify_cb, added a text translation of the verification error code
to the debug message.

Here are fixes for more places where the argument to ctype.h functions
should be in the range of `unsigned char'.

Explanation of the last patch (to schema_init.c:bvcasechr()):
TOLOWER() and TOUPPER() return values in the range of `unsigned char',
but bvcasechr() then compares those values with a plain `char'.  So I
convert the return values from TOLOWER()/TOUPPER() to `char' first.

ucgendat.c accessed unallocated memory when i == ncodes_size.

The changes others are trivial, I just include them since I'm patching
ucdata anyway:

ucdata.c   had some pointless '0 <= unsigned' comparisons.

ucstr.c    assigned a long* to an unsigned long*.  Since malloc()
           returns void*, the result need not be cast at all.

I'll send the ucgendat.c and ucdata.c patches to Mark Leisher

8c04993cdf Use <lber.h> ber_memalloc, not malloc. Shortcuts for pure-ASCII strings.

The client library can generate CLDAP queries if -Protocol 2 is chosen,
otherwise not. LDAPv2 CLDAP cannot query the slapd rootDSE, gets no reply.

647b5f84ee Resurrection/rewrite of CLDAP (RFC1798 Connectionless LDAP). 
Compile with -DLDAP_CONNECTIONLESS to use this code.
For slapd, use "-h cldap://" to listen on UDP.
For ldapsearch, use "-H cldap://" to query on UDP.
Client-side support is very minimal:
  no automatic timeout/retries
  no basedn wildcard expansion on results
  no support for specifying multiple servers at once.

74fa239a20 This is the commit of: 
- librewrite, for string rewriting; it may be used in back-ldap
    by configuring with '--enable-rewrite'. It must be used in
    back-meta. There's a text file, 'libraries/librewrite/RATIONALE',
    that explains the usage and the features. More comprehensive
    documentation will follow.
  - enhancements of back-ldap (ITS#989,ITS#998,ITS#1002,ITS#1054 and ITS#1137)
    including dn rewriting, a fix to group acl matching and so
  - back-meta: a new backend that proxies a set of remote servers
    by spawning queries. It uses portions of back-ldap and the rewrite
    capabilities of librewrite. It can be compiled by configuring
    with `--enable-ldap --enable-rewrite --enable-meta'.
    There's a text file, 'servers/slapd/back-meta/Documentation', that
    describes the main features and config statements.

Note: someone (Kurt?) should run 'autoconf' and commit 'configure' as
my autoconf version must be different: my configures contain a number
of differences and I didn't feel comfortable in adding them :)
